Future’s Lens

Share a little about your Author Journey

My author journey, like many, began with text based role play in various fandoms and fan fiction. However, it didn’t begin professionally until 2014 when I decided on a whim to put out a book of short stories “Objects: Stories of Things”. In the past almost decade I’ve written a number of novels, novellas, and short stories but I always like to think it truly begins with a “Why not?” Why not me.

Why do you like streaming and writing?

I honestly like it for the accountability. Showing up and putting my butt in the chair everyday because I don’t want to disappoint my audience has helped me get a lot done over the past few months. It even helps me to get stuff done when I would really rather just lie in for the morning. I tell myself I can always go back to bed after though.

Can you share a little about your writing process?

My writing process is taken wholesale from Rachel Aaron’s 2K to 10K with a little bit of personality required tweaking. Her basic idea is have an overarching outline but each day before you sit down to write, you should plot the writing for that day. I sometimes don’t plot from day to day because I often don’t finish what I have outlined in one session, so I might do a daily plot session about every two days.

Deadlines? Good friends are greatest foes? Why?

Honestly, I LOVE deadlines because without them, I would get absolutely nothing done. What can be done at any time is often done at no time; therefore, a schedule is necessary to make sure that things get done.

What advice do you have to someone beginning to find their writing voice/process/journey?

Learn your own habits. Figure out what makes you tick and what makes you light up. These are very subjective things. So if you want to go forward on your journey, take the time to figure yourself out. And also recognize this will change. It is a journey and a growth process. What worked last time might not suit you anymore. Be prepared to change with the necessities of your life.
