Miya Writes – Author, Creative Spirt, Streamer and Community Founder!

Miya Chisholm contributed a lot on the backend of the anthology Future’s Lens and will be in the next one that will be released April 24th, 2023.

Here’s a fun interview done with the talented and supportive Miya earlier this year! If you’re up for a good conversation and wonderful creativity, visit her stream on Twitch! http://twitch.tv/MiyaWrites

Why do you like streaming and writing?

I enjoy streaming and writing because of the community I’ve found there. While I’m not the best at keeping to my schedule, having the accountability of being on camera to write helps a lot.

How does it feel writing in this genre? Do you have inspirations for it?

I don’t have a lot of experience with writing in this genre. As a consumer, I read and watch a lot of science fiction, but as an author, I lean more toward contemporary or fantasy. It was challenging to get into the proper headspace and figure out the best way to make this genre my own, but I had a lot of fun with it!

Can you share a little about your writing process?

Ideally, I would wake up early, grab a cup of coffee, light a candle, and pull up my outline and whatever manuscript I’m working on. My actual process is a bit more chaotic. When I do an outline, I write it by hand so that when I start drafting I can have it at my side. If I’ve made a playlist for that particular manuscript, I like to have it playing while I work, but if not then I try to find mood music or a Pandora station (for the variety). Lately, I’ve been using my Alphasmart Neo 2 for drafting which I love! It’s essentially a digital typewriter, so having nothing but a keyboard and a screen helps keep distractions to a minimum.

Miya is an occasional streamer who is getting back into a daily writing habit and working toward publication. Join her on her journey!
